The Magic Apple

Over the last 20 years, Brent Geris has built The Magic Apple into a cornerstone of the magic community, creating a place where magicians can connect, learn, and purchase the finest effects with confidence. Having been deeply involved in the magic scene ourselves, we have great respect for Brent’s dedication to running a brick-and-mortar magic shop with a community focus—a rare and valuable thing in today’s world. It’s Brent’s personal touch, expertise, and selection of top-tier magic that make this partnership a perfect fit.

A spectator freely selects a card, signs their name on the face, and buries it anywhere in the deck. An envelope handed out earlier turns out to say just one word: balloons — the prediction, sight unseen. Three balloons are chosen at random and shuffled, and the spectator names one to pop. Inside is the signed card, name and all. Michael Ammar's Card to Balloon — watch it today.

In this Practice Engine session, Alex digs into the coin work, revisiting the assembly in a freshly revised sequence before tackling the full backfire with cards, then stripping it down and performing the same effect completely bare-handed, complete with staging and cleanup insight along the way. Then Adam wraps up the rope series, running back through the cut-and-restored and Professor's Nightmare material with alternate handlings and pro tips on routine length.

This Practice Engine session Mike works through the opening phases of a Slydini rope routine, covering cut and restored handling, the transition into the Professor’s Nightmare. Then Alex focuses on the backfire sequence of a coin assembly, treating it as choreography and timing, then extends the material into a cardless assembly.

This Practice Engine session is led by Mike Stevens and Alexander Slemmer. Mike opens by answering a submitted question on the Professor’s Nightmare setup and leads two full practice-along run-throughs. Alex then covers matrix work with dice and coins, including handling alternatives for smaller objects, choosing props, and a detailed breakdown of the backfire follow-up. Member questions on angles, palm position, and grip are addressed throughout.

This Practice Engine session is devoted entirely to rope magic, with Adam Grace leading the hour. Mike opens with a Professor’s Nightmare warm-up drill covering the setup, counts and displays, then walks through his own performing routine. Grace follows with an extended segment on cut-and-restored rope: the transition out of the Professor’s Nightmare, several approaches to restoration, and the construction of a complete multi-phase routine, illustrated with video of Richard Sanders and Dan Harlan.

Four cards — Ace through Four of Spades — and a premise that sounds like a bar bet: every card has its own weight. The lightest one turns face up on a snap, then flips back down as the next one takes its place, one at a time, in order. The four is the heavy one, and a snap won't budge it — that takes a breath. And when it finally turns over, it doesn't come back the way it left. Gary Nealon teaches Brother John Hamman's First Twist — watch it today and see how much work that premise is doing.

In this Practice Engine live session, Alex spends the first half on the Matrix with coins and cards, then moves to the more demanding backfire ending. The second half introduces the Malini sugar cube trick performed with dice, covering handling, prop selection, and pacing. Grab your coins, cards, and dice — these classics get overlooked, but they're well worth the practice time.
